Saudi Arabia will execute three prominent scholars after Ramadan

On 21 May, Middle East Eye reported that 3 important scholars would be executed at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, all of them were charged of terrorism. The Sheikh Salman al-Awdah is an Islamic scholar internationally considered as a “reformist”. The other two imprisoned are Awad al-Qarni and Ali al-Omar, an academic and a popular broadcaster. All of them had an important presence on social media. Referring to the execution of 37 personalities in April, a Middle East Monitor source noticed that “When they found out there was very little international reaction, particularly at the level of governments and heads of state, they decided to proceed with their plan to execute figures who were prominent”. Several human rights organizations and international authorities such as Human Rights Council, Amnesty International and the US State Department condemned the Saudi decision. Saudi authorities has not commented the Middle East Eye Report.
