The EU supports Tunisian development with €30 million On 7 August, the European Delegation in Tunisia announced that the EU and Tunisia had signed two conventions for a total amount of €30 million in order to support economic development in Tunisia.

British PM Johnson meets Jordan’s King Abdullah II and holds a phone call with Palestinian President Abbas On 7 August, the King of Jordan Abdullah II met the recently elected British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a working visit in London. The two leaders discussed about the strong relations between the two countries and the political situation in the Middle East. PM Johnson welcomed Jordanian efforts to reform the economic system and urged the King to persist in these attempts.

Tunisia accused of sending migrants back to Libya leaving them in the middle of the desert On 6 August, several NGOs accused the Tunisian Government of sending migrants back to Libya and leaving them in the middle of the desert. The NGOs referred to the arrest of several people in the Tunisian city of Sfax, under charges of illegal immigration, and the consequent refoulement over the border.

The Egyptian government blames the Hasm group for a car explosion that left 20 casualties in central Cairo On 5 August, a car driving in the opposite direction clashed and provoked a blast in which 20 people died and 47 got injured. The episode took place in Cairo, in front of the National Cancer Institute, which was severely damaged.

Tunisian Independent Electoral Commission announces election on 15 September after Essebsi’s death On 25 July, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi passed away in a military hospital in Tunis. According to the Tunisian constitution, the President of the Parliament Mohamed Ennaceur was nominated interim President of the Republic and the Electoral Commission announced that the next presidential elections will be held on 15 September.

The second East Med Gas Forum ministerial meeting takes place in Alexandria On 25 July, Oil and Energy Ministers from Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, Israel, Palestine and Italy met in Alexandria to hold the second ministerial meeting of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.
