EuroMeSCo, a Euro-Mediterranean network of 106 think tanks, will hold its annual conference in Rabat on 12-13 July.

The meeting is co-organized by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), which coordinates the EuroMeSCo network from Barcelona, and the OCP Policy Center.

The conference will focus on the situation of the European Union (EU), its impact on Euro- Mediterranean relations and how the countries of the southern and eastern Mediterranean perceive these dynamics.

Thereby, under the theme “Changing Euro-Mediterranean Lenses”, the annual conference of the EuroMeSCo network challenges the prevailing tendency of the Euro-Mediterranean fora to focus on the analysis of Euro-Mediterranean relations only in the light of the situation in the south and east of the Mediterranean and its impact on the European Union.

EuroMeSCo is the main network of think tanks specializing on political and security issues in the Mediterranean (106 research centers representing 32 countries) and its annual conference represents a unique opportunity for researchers, experts and diplomatic actors to meet to discuss the relations between EU and its Mediterranean neighbors.

Two plenary sessions and parallel sessions will go through a number of European dynamics (Brexit, populism, migration policies, foreign policy, etc.) and how these affect the countries of the Maghreb and the Middle East, as well as the capacity of projection of the EU in the region and ultimately the Euro-Mediterranean relations. Experts will also discuss how these dynamics affect the external policies of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries vis-à-vis the EU and whether current cooperation frameworks remain relevant.

The conference will also be an opportunity for network members to take stock of recent areas of work (particularly on the issue of minorities in the Maghreb and the Middle East, on the new dynamics of cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean and on the future of Tunisia-EU partnership) and to launch the new lines of research that will be pursued until 2019.
