The Syrian uprising took the Syrian government and the opposition by surprise. While the traditional political players were arguing on what stance to adopt on protesters´ demands, a new political player – the Local Coordinator Committees – emerged.  The LCC, founded by young activists, might provide a united umbrella for the political opposition and help unify their efforts around a roadmap for a transitional period.
