US deploys navy strike group to the Middle East to deter Iran

On 6 May, Trump’s administration deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and bomber task force to the Central Command region in the Middle East in response to troubling “indications and warnings” from Iran and to show the US will retaliate with “unrelenting force” to any attack, national security adviser John Bolton said, reported Reuters. Making it crystal clear that this move was to “send a clear and unmistakable message” to Iran, the US showed that it will not shy away from defending “US interests or […] those of [their] allies” Bolton added. A year ago, Trump abandoned the multinational Iran nuclear deal and it is expected now to impose even more economic sanctions on Tehran, read POLITICO.
