Port of Hodeidah caught between warring parties jeopardizing the ceasefire

On 15 May, Houthi fighters and Saudi-backed pro-government forces renewed clashes in Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah, reported Reuters. A senior official from the United Arab Emirates, which is part of the coalition, said the coalition would “retaliate hard” for any Houthi attacks targeted at them but that they remained committed to a Hodeidah peace deal. Head of U.N. monitoring mission in Hodeidah, Lieutenant General Michel Lollesgaard said that the number of violations of the ceasefire was “not an alarming number”.  However, Lollesgaard said that the withdrawal by government and coalition forces (phase one) wouldn’t take place until the parties at war have settled on details for a broader phase two, the redeployment around Hodeidah, and the question of local security forces.
