Morocco and Spain sign Cooperation Agreements during royal visit

On 13-14 February, King Felipe VI of Spain joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the EU and Cooperation, Josep Borrell met with King Mohamed VI of Morocco, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco, Nasser Bourita in Rabat. On 13 February, both monarchs signed 11 bilateral agreements which are meant to strengthen the multidimensional strategic partnership between the two countries. The agreements cover issues such as political dialogue (with the ambition to forge a broader and global strategic partnership), security dialogue, economic and cultural cooperation. The agreements include the Strategic Partnership on Energy, an understanding regarding the development of a 3rd Electric Interconnection, an advanced collaboration for the implementation of a device to facilitate flows of trade and passengers in the Strait of Gibraltar between the two Kingdoms, an understanding between IBERIA Airlines and the Royal Air Maroc Company (RAM) and an understanding between the National Securities Market Commission of Spain (CNMV) and the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC) on assistance and mutual cooperation. On 14 February, King Felipe VI chaired the Morocco-Spain Economic Meeting in which he highlighted the importance of their “strategic bilateral partnership”, seconded by Josep Borrell who said that the cooperation between Spain and Morocco, which affects “sensitive areas”, is “exemplary in a troubled world”. Regarding migration management, the Spanish Minister called for a focus on the positive aspects of the migratory phenomenon.
