Jordan’s cabinet reshuffled

On 9 May, Jordan PM Omar al-Razzaz “reshuffled his cabinet as an effort to meet the kingdom’s mounting challenges”, reported Reuters. The revamp affected 8 Ministers but left finance and foreign affairs portfolios untouched. This change comes just after the change in leadership of the General Intelligence Department (GID). King Abdullah appointed General Ahmed Husni to lead the agency, after dismissing his predecessor because of abuses by a small group whom he accuses of placing personal interests above the country, informs Reuters. The King has also restructured his own office bringing new faces expanding his team of senior advisors. The changes in government come at a time of slow-moving economic growth and concern about the repercussions on Jordan with the expected US-sponsored Middle East Peace Plan.
