Italian PM visits Tunisia

On 30 April an Italian governmental delegation visited Tunisia to celebrate the first Italo-Tunisian Strategic Supreme Council that took place the same day in the Tunisian capital. The Italian PM Giuseppe Conte, the Italian FM Moavero Milanesi, and the two Deputy Prime Ministers Di Maio and Salvini took part in the visit. During the visit, PM Conte met his Tunisian counterpart Chahed and the Tunisian President Essebsi. Bilateral cooperation and economic ties between both countries, cooperation to tackle illegal migration, the fight against terrorism as well as regional issues such as the Libyan crisis were on the agenda of the meetings. Both delegations agreed on the need to find a political solution in Libya in the framework of the UN efforts. PM Conte defined Tunisia as a factor of stability for the Mediterranean. On the other side, Tunisian PM asked Rome to help Tunisia in several sectors including tourism, public debt and made a call to Italy to remove Tunisia from the European blacklists. The two countries signed 7 cooperation agreements in many fields such as energy, infrastructures, and migration.
