16th Union Security Progress Report

Commissioner Avramopoulos and commissioner King presented in Brussels on 10 October the 16th Security Union Progress Report. This report outlines the security initiatives that will be decisive for the conformation of the Security Union before the up-coming European-Parliament elections in May 2019. Both Commissioners recall in their statements the progress made during the past three years in security cooperation. However, they also call for the acceleration of the work in some crucial files, particularly, on those identified by President Juncker in his 2018 State of the Union, i.e., protecting Europeans online, interoperability of EU information systems, fighting cross-border crime and strengthening EU borders. To do so, the Commission has earmarked €70 million under the Internal Security Fund (ISF) for 2018-2019 for targeted security funding. This report aims to contribute to the discussion on European internal security during the European Council on 18-19 October.
