Mission and objectives

Mitvim – The Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies, established in 2011, is an independent think tank that envisions a fresh start for Israel among the nations. It aims to reshape Israel’s relations in the Middle East, Europe and the Mediterranean, by promoting new paradigms for Israel’s foreign policies, enhancing Israel’s regional belonging, and advancing Israeli-Arab peace.

Mitvim’s core activities include research, policy-planning, publications, expert-workshops, public events, regional policy dialogues, public opinion polls, briefings to journalists and diplomats, and cooperation with Israeli politicians and bureaucrats. Mitvim is ranked among the top think tanks in the MENA region according to the annual rankings published by the University of Pennsylvania.

Mitvim´s main objectives are: 1) To promote a paradigm shift in Israel’s foreign policy:  Introduce a coherent peace-oriented and multilateral foreign policy paradigm; Make foreign policy considerations more prominent in Israeli decision-making; Transform Israel’s inward-looking culture; 2) To promote regional-belonging for Israel:. Enhance knowledge and understanding of regional issues, Define Israel’s desired relations with its adjacent regions, Advance regional-belonging possibilities; 3) To promote Israeli-Arab peace: Engage in policy dialogue with Arab and Muslim think-tanks, Identify, create and maximize opportunities for peace, Provide process-expertise to support peace-making efforts.
