Rabat – Consultation Circles on the new Pact: Building the Mediterranean of tomorrow
On 13–14 May 2025, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), in partnership with the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), held the EuroMeSCo Consultation Circle: Consulting Southern Partners in Rabat. The meeting is part of the EU co-funded initiative Support to Reflection and Consultations on the Pact for the Mediterranean, aimed at feeding inclusive regional perspectives into the upcoming New Pact for the Mediterranean — the EU’s renewed framework for strategic cooperation with its Southern Neighbourhood.
This two-day, closed-door dialogue brought together over 80 policymakers, researchers, civil society representatives, youth voices, and private sector actors from across North Africa to collectively explore regional priorities. Discussions focused on three key dimensions: fostering economic growth through trade and investment, empowering youth via skills and mobility, and advancing sustainable development through climate-resilient policies and partnerships.
The event featured an exclusive exchange with Stefano Sannino, Director General for the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf at the European Commission, who outlined the political momentum and transformative ambition underpinning the Pact and exchanged with the participants on their questions regarding the future EU strategy.
The Consultation Circles will continue in Cairo (27–28 May 2025), further consolidating regional inputs for a co-owned, future-oriented Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
