Euro-Mediterranean Relations between Continuity and Reinforced Cooperation

16 - 17 October 2008
Amman

EuroMeSCo’s 2008 Annual Conference, entitled “Euro-Mediterranean Relations Between Continuity and Reinforced Cooperation. Quo Vadis Barcelona?”, took place in Amman, on 16-17 October. It was organised in collaboration with the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS), and counted on the support of distinguished Jordanian personalities and institutions.

The choice of topic for this conference fully corresponded to the current concern about Euro-Mediterranean relations that has dominated recent debates, in official, as well as academic and public policy circles. A French initiative designed to re-dynamize the somewhat languishing Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, forcibly introduced into the agenda the re-evaluation of the Process launched in Barcelona back in 1995. EuroMeSCo – through its seminars, workshops, and research papers -has itself been active in promoting this much needed debate on the achievements and short-comings of a project whose ambitions now seem in sharp contrast with the harsh realities existing around the Mediterranean.
