Consultation Circles on the new Pact: Forging Shared Resilience in the Mediterranean
On 27-28 May 2025, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), through the EuroMeSCo network, will convene a two-day consultation in Cairo in partnership with the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies (ACPSS) and the American University in Cairo (AUC). Organised in the framework of the EuroMeSCo Consultations Circles, this event will provide a structured platform for policy dialogue and expert reflection to support the shaping of the forthcoming New Pact for the Mediterranean.
The Pact is expected to become the European Union’s principal political framework for strengthening cooperation with its Southern Neighbourhood partners. It proposes a renewed and comprehensive approach to tackling the region’s complex challenges, while unlocking opportunities for deeper collaboration across shared strategic priorities.
The Cairo consultation will serve as a dedicated space to engage policymakers, think tankers, civil society actors, and private sector stakeholders from across the Middle East. Discussions will focus on three interrelated dimensions: advancing economic development through trade and private sector engagement; empowering youth by aligning education and mobility with emerging labour market needs; and promoting sustainable transformation through decarbonised, climate-resilient approaches to food systems, water, and environmental governance.
