Abstract

Shaping policy:
Regional consultation on the New Pact for the Mediterranean

Following the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen’s call for a more focused approach to the EU’s wider neighbourhood, especially to the Mediterranean, the European Commission has set up a new Directorate-General for the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf (DG MENA) under the leadership of Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, that will have to drive and shape the goals of the future EU-Mediterranean policy. For that, the EU and the partner countries of the Southern Neighbourhood will jointly develop a New Pact for the Mediterranean, aiming to create a comprehensive framework that addresses the complex issues affecting the region on concerted priority areas.

In this framework, the IEMed is launching an open, region-wide consultation campaign co-funded by the European Commission. This is part of the larger consultations envisaged by the EU with a large array of stakeholders ahead of the publication of the New Pact for the Mediterranean.

This consultation takes the format of a Euromed Survey and targets respondents from both EU and Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries, including policy-makers, experts, academia, civil society representatives, and the private sector. It will also be open for registration to anyone who would like to participate and submit their contribution.
