General Statement Ifri, or the French Institute of International Relations, is the first French think tank or "idea factory" aimed at a deeper analysis of international issues. As a European institution, it is reknown for its political and intellectual independence and ranked by University of Pennsylvania as one of the top ten most influential think tanks in the world outside of the United States. Founded in 1979 and directed by Thierry de Montbrial, (Ifri) is independent of any political party or official authority aims to: - Produce policy-oriented research on pressing international issues and the emergence of major global trends, and - Spark discussion between policymakers, researchers, and other leaders on both a domestic and international level. Areas of work Ifri's research centers are structured by regions (Europe, Russia/NIS, Asia, Middle East, Africa, United States) and thematic fields (Security and Strategic Issues, International Economy, Energy; Space, Migration, Health, Environmental Issues), working in synergy and across disciplines. Objectives of the Euromed/Middle East programme(s) Research, debate, publications. As the n°1 French think tank, Ifri’s works are widely relayed nationally and internationally. As a founding and long acting member of EuroMeSCo, Ifri contributed a lot to the development and reputation of the network (Direction of projects, publications, organisation of events in Paris). The difficulties met by the network lately tended to diminish Ifri’s involvement. Activities and Publications Research; organisation of international events, workshops and closed seminars; Publication, top publications being the quarterly Politique étrangère, France's oldest international relations journal, and the annual RAMSES report.
