General Statement
The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) is Germany’s national foreign policy network. As an independent, non-partisan and non-profit organization, we actively take part in the political decision-making process and promote the understanding of German foreign policy and international relations.

 

Aims of the Council
• To promote Germany’s position in international relations;
• To contribute substantially to the foreign policy debate in Germany;
• To advise decision-makers in politics, business and society;
• To inform the public about questions on global politics;
• To strengthen the foreign policy community in Germany.

For these Purposes
• The DGAP conducts policy-oriented research and analysis;
• The DGAP publishes studies, analyses and comments;
• The DGAP organizes foreign policy-focused events (conferences, lectures, panel discussions, study groups, etc.);
• The DGAP publishes the journal IP »Internationale Politik« and English-language journal IP »Global Edition«;
• The DGAP operates the only public library in Germany specializing on foreign affairs;
• The DGAP offers foreign policy makers and experts a discussion platform in Germany;
• Maintains the websites ip-global.org, internationalepolitik.de, dgap.org and the information gateway aussenpolitik.net.

 

The Research Institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) is a foreign policy think tank incorporating politics, economics, academia, and the media. More than 20 scholars work addressing global issues in the geographic regions of the US, the EU and its Eastern and Southern neighbourhood, France, Russia, Eurasia and China, as well as on topics such as security and energy policy and future global challenges. The experts of the Research Institute advise both the public sector, including government officials and members of the Bundestag, and the private sector, and, in cooperation with the media, inform the public both within Germany and abroad.


Areas of work
More than 20 scholars work addressing global issues in the geographic regions of the US, the EU and its Eastern and Southern neighbourhood, France, Russia, Eurasia and China, as well as on topics such as security and energy policy and future global challenges.


Objectives of the Euromed/Middle East programme(s)
Both research and analysis of developments in Euro-Mediterranean relations and the development of tools of neighbourhood co-operation at EU level; France’s Mediterranean policies; Young leaders programmes for representatives from the EU and Mediterranean countries.
