|EuroMed Migration Working Group Meeting|
1 December 2008 - 3 December 2008WorkshopsBrussels, Belgium
The second session of Working Group II: Labour Migration, which took place in Brussels from 1 to 3 December 2008, considered the question "Which Management of the Labour Market?".
This meeting was held within the framework of the new regional project on migration in the Euro-Mediterranean area - "EuroMed Migration II", funded by the European Commission with a budget of 5 Million Euro - which is part of a wider Justice and Home Affairs sector programme, approved in 2006.
This project is founded in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and calls for enhanced cooperation in the fields of Migration, Social Integration, Justice and Security, through a comprehensive and integrated approach highlighting the need for improved practical cooperation at the regional level.
It is a response to the 8th and 9th Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Tampere, 27-28 November 2006, and Lisbon, 5-6 November 2007 respectively), both of which emphasized the need to strengthen the management of migratory flows in a comprehensive and balanced manner beneficial to the Euro-Mediterranean peoples, as well as the need to increase cooperation in the fields of legal migration, migration and development, and illegal migration.
Furthermore, the EuroMed Migration II project will contribute towards the implementation of some of the activities approved at the first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Migration, which took place on 18-19 November 2007 in Portugal, where political and operational conclusions were reached, confirming the importance of concrete cooperation in this field.
