Director and EuroMeSCo "liaison officer": Mr. Tomas Ries
The Swedish Institute of International Affairs was established in 1938 to provide the Swedish general public with information about international developments and events, and to engage in academic research relevant for Swedish foreign, security and disarmament policies.
Main areas of focus European security and integration; Russia and the CIS, Baltic Sea and Nordic regions; human rights and international negotiations on environment and trade issues.
Activities The Institute has a research department with the mandate to conduct research on problems relevant for Swedish foreign, security and disarmament policy. Today, research at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs is conducted both through long term research programmes – including human rights and international negociations –, organised and co-ordinated by senior associates, and through a special foreign and security studies programme involving shorter term projects and graduate students. The Swedish Institute of International Affairs also offers several lectures and conferences, most of them held in English, that are open to the general public.
