SIPRI has no specific Mediterranean or Middle East Programme. Instead research related to the region is spread throughout the institute’s programmes and projects on arms transfers, arms control, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, military expenditure, NBC weapons and arms industry.


General Statement

SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) is an independent international institute dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public.

Objective of the Euromed / Middle East programme

SIPRI’s contribution to EuroMesCo would be to link the research issues SIPRI is widely recognized to be a global leader in to the region of focus of EuroMesCo. In particular SIPRI could play a leading role in discussions and projects about arms, disarmament and arms control in the Mediterranean.
